Considering a 2008 MINI Convertible, what am I looking at in maintenance & repairs?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

1 owner car that always lived in the same city. 52k miles MINI Cooper Convertible "Sidewalk". It's appearance is prestine, inside and out but it is out of warranty. We plan to purchase an extended warranty. Buying from CarMax so that gives me some comfort and their service dept claims all they did to put it on the ot was oil change, tires, replaced one rubber gasket/weather stripping inside the door. My main concern is the cost of repairs and how many miles I should get out of it before replacing the clutch, timing belt etc....

I bought a 2005 Mini Cooper S convertible 3 years ago with 22k miles on it and drove about 19k miles. Roughly I spent $3,500 in repairs and maintenance including a full set of tires and brakes. The only main repair I had to do was a wheel sensor that was triggering 3 lights (abs, disc, tire pressure) which was around $500. I'm selling it right now (Permalink: http://cargur.us/qfHZ) because I just had a baby but I love the car overall. Very fun to drive, you won't regret it!
