1994 Camaro convertible loud high-pitched noise, sounds like air leaking out

Asked by beebols Aug 03, 2016 at 04:08 PM about the 1994 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

loud high pitched noise, everything under the hood is in great condition, car
starts easily, no belt problems, no alternator problems, noise seems to
come from the side or underneath the car.  Also when removing fuel cap
there is  a palpable amount of air that expels every time. Car is not driven a
lot. Could this be an air in the fuel line or buildup of air....color me
frustrated. Noise only occurs when car is fully warmed up

Maybe you have a problem with the EVAP recovery system - start with the gas cap, then the fuel tank vent valve (which has a pressure/vacuum relief valve), the EVAP emission control valve, and the EVAP emission canister. THe EVAP emission canister is connected to the crankcase ventilation valve by a purge solenoid valve. As you can imagine, pressure differentials are at play here, so if you have a leak or a blockage in one of these you might get a whistling noise, and the pressure is building, as you have noticed, in the gas tank. I'm not certain if there is a relay used in connection with the purge solenoid or not, check under the hood as that alone might be the problem.

this sounds very logical, unlike yourself I am not talented when it comes to fixing these things, does anyone know of a good, but inexpensive mechanic in the Arlington/Alexandria Virginia area
