Coolant leak?

Asked by Elewallen1 Jan 10, 2019 at 12:40 AM about the 2002 Saturn S-Series 4 Dr SL1 Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So I have a 2002 Saturn SL1, since about
August my car has been loosing coolant. I
never really paid much attention until the fact
that is now winter and it seems to be loosing
coolant more rapidly. My problem is I can’t
find the source of it leaking. It’s not the “tank”
that holds my coolant. I’m thinking it’s a leak
in the hose somewhere because it only
seems to leak when I drive. There hasn’t
been any spots left at my work or at home
where it could be leaking out of the “tank”. At
this point I really don’t know what to do and I
want to get it fixed, I’m hoping it doesn’t cost
me an arm and leg.

I have a similar problem. No visable leaks but losses coolant. I am a mechanic in training and have access to shop computer systems. I looked into this and found that it’s not super common but it happens. The technical service bulletin form GM said it could be coolant leaking into the spark plug wells and burning off when in operation. I wish they provided a more definite fix but they said this can be fixed with a 1 gram tab on coolant system sealer. Something that might help is to look for excessive smoke out of the exhaust. Just a thought, hope this helps.
