96 Cavalier stalls and won't start after lights flicker.

Asked by Damienkap Feb 09, 2016 at 07:37 PM about the 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I got to work today my abs light popped on.
So I parked in my spot and went in to work. Came
out at lunch and the car wouldn't turn over. Dash
lights come on but just clicking noises. I took the
keys out and the car was trying to start itself (had a
remote start at one point)
Roadside assistance comes and jumps the car. It
starts and the guy said the remote start was
probably trying to start the car and killed the
battery. Driving home about 20 minutes all is fine.
Out of nowhere the abs light comes on and radio
shuts off. Then I notice the airbag light flicker a
couple of times, then boom the car stalls. I'm stuck
at a red light and the car won't turn over at all. In
fact the hazards wouldn't even work (so I'm getting
screamed at) tow truck comes and brings me to my
mechanic.
I've read that it's usually a bad battery (3 years old)
that does this. I've gotten good info from this site so
I have to ask. What do you guys or girls think it
could be?
Thank you

Yes is could be the battery, just have it checked. Have the charging system checked at the same time. Gotta see if that solves the problem before throwing other things out there.
