Refer to the owners manual, there should be a section on the transmission interlock and how to over ride it.

The shift-lock override is under that little cap next to the shifter. Pry it open and insert a screwdriver to push the button. After this, don't shift back into PARK, just use Neutral when parking the car. Then have a mechanic repair the problem. Likely a defective shift-lock solenoid.

Thank you very much. Of course, this is not in the owner’s manual. I also have a Chilton’s manual but unfortunately it is not mentioned in there either. I did find it in the service manual that I downloaded and it solved the problem. Again, thank you G A Arne and Mark, just popped the little cap. Russell Ryan
