when driving 2007 mazda Miata mx5 in automatic the M light came on and will not go out (it has both manual and automatic mode transmission) but no owners manual, can you please help?

The red M (manual transmission light came on while driving in automatic and will not go off. The car is equipped to drive in both manual and 6 speed, but I have now owners manual for the car, yet. Can someone please help?

I do not know as I have no owners manual yet. What are paddle shifters? The shifting is between the seats, it has cruise control and radio controls on the steering wheel, could the paddle shifters be there?

There are two silver colored on both sides of the steering wheel, two say up and two say down, actually they appear to be four but are only two. Instead of moving the shift lever all the way to the left, move it to the extreme right hand side of the gate. If that does not change to A, you have a problem. Besides the obvious, were you shown the workings of the car when you bought it?
