Have electrical issues with the door locks, locking and unlocking at will, battery now to be replaced within 5 months because car won't start. Fuse panel at battery was replaced once already due to melting up. Any suggestions why battery has to be replaced again ?

not sure on the new beetle, but the golfs have a problem with the wiring going to the ignition switch/steering column. it seems to melt the pigtail and cause all kinds of problems. my cousins R32 golf, windows don't work, climate controls don't light up so they don't work, no high beam headlights, and a few other things. it seems that most of the wiring to the fuse panel, and almost everything in the dash runs thru this switch/pigtail harness.
