Cruise Control on but not holding speed

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My cruise control is having issues, when I get up to my desired speed, I
press ON, and Set. Both the dash and wheel's light indicate that cruise
control has been activated, but it isn't cruising, it slows down as if nothing
changed. If it matters, I can hear a clicking when I set cruise, and when I take
it off, so SOMETHING is happening when it's activated. It has been like this
since I bought the car last summer. Any help would be appreciated, I want to
take it to a mechanic, but I'll ask here first.

Update: The issue was a broken piece of plastic on the cruise control cable, found a cable from an 02 Malibu and took it's plastic piece
