Mass Air Flow Cleaned, now transmission won't shift?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So my MAF was very dirty when removed. I used appropriate cleaner and let
it dry for about an hour. I reinstalled the MAF and took it for a drive. My
check engine light came on, and it will not shift out of first gear. I read
somewhere that is the MAF was cleaned you must reset the vehicle's
computers so last night I unhooked my battery and let it sit overnight. I don't
know if it will work correctly or not, but is there a specific set of instructions I
have to follow to reset the parameters of the vehicle's computers? I heard
that I need to perform the GM Driving Cycle. Any thoughts? Anything is
much appreciated. I also read somewhere that the MAF calculates engine
load so the transmission knows when to shift because of line pressure.

** I understand how delicate the Mass Air Flow sensor is so I made extra sure not the let anything even get so close as to touching it or the hot wires. I even had the spray can back quite a ways so it wouldn't be too much pressure on the hot wires.**

Is the check engine light lit? If so have the trouble code read.

Yes there is a drive time protocol for your vehicle, it can take as long as 20 minutes for it too relearn the vehicle, however there is a basic programming installed from the factory, so even during the drive time everything like the transmission should work as it would right from the factory, so if it doesn't shift then something else is wrong, double check your work, possible a cable got misrouted or sensor ground wire could have broke, sometimes it just a little thing that can really mess us up. If all else fails find a shop close by that can do a live data scan, that might be the only way to find what happened.

The check engine light is on, but I'm not sure what it is yet. I'm going to try and see later what it is. I believe it is still receiving power, but you might be correct with the wire being not routed correctly or a ground wire breaking. Thanks!

I am almost positive though that the code is going to be a P0101.

If you still get the MAF code thats for sensor range, then it's time for a new MAF.

***SOLVED*** I figured it out! I accidentally put the throttle position sensor in wrong and it now runs and drives better than ever before! Thanks for your help!

WOW I didn't think you could put those on wrong, I've never had a problem with that but I always mark everything first, just been a tech too long. Glad you found it and hope you are code free.
