I have a 1997 Mercedes c230 - replaced water pump last year, but temp light has been coming on lately, when I'm sitting in traffic. What else would I check to maintain temperature?

Have topped off with coolant, seems to help, but still runs hot.

Both the cooling fans and the coolant keep the engine from overheating. Check your coolant levels and add some if it's low. That should keep the warning light from coming on.

the fans in those cars work with a weird clutch on the fan and they break sometimes so they dont catch the fan and therefore dont create the cooling, you need a special tool to fix it and its better to bring it somewhere then try on your own
