Asked by Amanda Apr 19, 2018 at 08:56 PM about the 2006 Mercedes-Benz C-Class C 230

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I'm a college student that can't make it to
school because My mercedes benz c230
2006 sport is not starting. About a month
ago the car was missing and running rough.
So, I replaced the crank shaft position
sensor. That didn't fix the miss. Than I
replaced all my cam shaft position sensor
and magnets. That didn't fix the problem.
Finally I replaced the maf sensor and that
fixed the miss. Ever after that it ran with no
miss. The car would intermittently
accelerate right and sometimes bad. Also
the car would randomly turn on the esp
while driving. So I had to pull over and
restart the engine and it drove fine after.
Another thing that it would do is when I
would come to a stop the car would sound
like it would get choked up for a quick
second and almost die. The car has stalled
on me before to when backing out of a
parking lot and my wheel turned sharp to get
out of the parking spot and it would die. Also
it would intermittently have a hard time
starting.
So, the other day i got a obd11 scanner and
I cleared all the codes and the check engine
light. But after I cleared the codes it wouldn't
start. It will crank but not start. I than looked
further in the obd 11 readings and the new
does its throwing is p0100 and p0010. It is
also saying that it is failing the emissions
tests for the Catalyst, evaporative system,
secondary air system, oxygen sensor, and
oxygen sensor heater. Also, keep in mind a
month ago the car wouldnt start either
because of a faulty fuel pump. We got a new
one, a new fuel filter. So I dont think its the
fuel system although the gas gage hasn't
been working. Also, the coolant has a crack
in the hose and keeps running low on
coolant. Somebody please help me with this
mess!

First of all fix the coolant leak. I would consider unloading the car as it sounds like a mess. Post all the codes if you can.

Ok I will begin fixing the coolant leak and the only codes it's saying is p0010 and p0100,

Just to put out more information on the car. Im just trying to get my car to start again

One more time - why do you think you have problems with all the things you mentioned? Normally there would be trouble codes.

Well I don't know if all those are things that are wrong. Im just putting the information the obd11 scanner is telling me.

If the scanner has lights flashing indicating those items it may just mean a drive cycle has not been completed since you cleared the codes. If something was wrong a code should also appear. Did you check for vacuum leaks?

Check the fuel pressure and maybe add a can of gas in case you are out!

The fuel pressure is good and I added gas and still just a crank but not start

Pull a plug and ground it while having someone crank the engine. See if there is spark. I suspect that you may still have issues with the MAF or the camshaft position sensor(s). Did those code come back?

30

No but p0010 did p0100 not sure what those codes are

I suggest you "google" those codes which are for the MAF and cam position sensor.

But I just replaced those sensors and the maf sensor fixed the miss on my car. Could an oxygen sensor make it not start? I looked those codes up and they both didnt say nothing on if the symptoms will make your car not start.

Your car has the M272 motor which has a known issue with the balance shaft gear wearing out and causing slack in the timing chain. Ultimately, leading to engine failure. Google for "Mercedes C230 balance shaft failure" or read this link: http://www.mercedesmedic.com/check-my-mercedes-benz-for-balance-shaft-issue-by-vin- m272273/

I am having exactly all the problems described above. except I have not replaced the MAF, which I have been tempted. Gasoline pressure is 40 psi at the rail is that too low and all other problems related to low gas pressure and a new pump is the solution. Thank you for your response.
