I have a 2001 Chevy Suburban 2500. Love it, except lately, it won't start.

My 2001 Suburban 2500 (8.1 litre) is a great vehicle, but lately I am having
terrible starting problems.  I live at an altitude of 5300 feet above sea level.  
The problems seems to always occour here, at home, and not at lower
elevations??  If the car sits a couple of days, the battery goes dead (here).  
Then, even when jumped, it is very hard to start.  I have been putting starting
fluid in the air filter, and usually it will finally start.  This morning, I can not get
it to even turn over ....when jumped.  Somebody please help!  David Conrad

Sounds like something is draining your battery.(or altenater) Have you tried disconnecting the battery when not in use? Eventually your vehicle will get "addicted" to the starting fluid. I had an old Ford(ugh) that did that. My tracter was draining (new) batteries like crazy. I had a switch put in that would disconnect all power, and turned the switch on, when I was going to start it.

I just turned the switch and it started immediately. Before that, some clicking sounds. Weird. I have a new battery????

I would suspect the battery, alternator or a parasitic battery drain. I live near that altitude and it has no effect at all on starting. Cold can show up a weak battery though.
