Low engine oil level light

I just purchased a 2001 Chevrolet camaro,
with a 3.8 v6 engine, and I changed the oil
and since that the low engine oil light stays
on while the level on dipstick shows full?
Any ideas? Thanks

If it is in fact the low oil level light is on, then the oil level sensor is faulty. it is located in the drain pan right above the oil drain plug. Make sure the light isn't an oil pressure one. That is another issue.

As TDolby said plus once you've verified the oil level is good unplug the sensor for testing purposes. If the light goes off, the sensor is bad. The system is designed to turn the light on when you're about 1 quart low. Did you top off the oil after running the engine for the first time after the oil change? A new filter will hold between one half and one quart of oil. Hope that helps! Jim
