How do i bypass theft lock for a new 03 malibu ignition lock cylinder?

Asked by Joshua Sep 12, 2020 at 01:38 PM about the 2003 Chevrolet Malibu FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 03 malibu and the ignition takes quite a bit of
toying and jiggling to get it to turn. Got a new lock cylinder
from the car store and can install easily but not so easily
bypass the theft system with the 10 minute or 30 minute
key cycle process explained with the new part. My theft
light stays on solid and it doesnt flash for 10 minutes like
ive seen in videos when i put in the new ignition lock. So as
of now im using the messed up one that was in the car
when i bought it. Last thing i want to do is take it to a
dealership any help would be really appreciated i spent 140
on this part i cant even use.

You're going to the Dealer or a locksmith for this. The 10 minute or 30 minute relearn procedure that everyone talks about will NOT work in your situation! The new transponder keys have to be programmed to the vehicle. On a GM you must have at least one working key to program additional keys to the vehicle yourself. Hope that helps! Jim
