Spare tire is a different size

Got a flat with a recently purchased 2003 Chevy
Avalanche Z71, when I got the spare tire down, I
noticed it was a different size than what was on
the truck. Most notably the spare had a 16 inch
rim, as apposed to the 17 inch rim on the truck
already. So, stupid question, is it safe to drive my
truck with different rim sizes? Any help is
appreciated.

The important thing is not the wheels size but the outside diameter of the tire. If they are close then you have no worries.
