Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I noticed when I open my hood a thick, black oil substance was all over my
pulleys, my alternator, my belt and sidewall (engine) on the passenger side. I
think it is a leak in my power steering unit or in the hose, leaking onto the belt
and it's being flung everywhere.  Do you know the best course of action I should
take and if I can clean that alternator it? Altanator/car powers down now when I
step off the gas.

OK. I was told you can't get it wet, but I guess this is different. How do you think I can find the leak? It's only when running, but then you can't pinpoint it? My power steering hasn't been affected and the resevor doesn't empty all the way. Goes down about 3/4 of the way and then no more empties. I'm thinking, because of this, it must be in the resevor? Do I need to get a specialntool and take belt off?

You were told you can't get it wet? What do you think happens when you drive in the rain?
