I actually have a 96 Pontiac grand prix keeps running hot.

Asked by Donnalynn58 Jul 27, 2019 at 08:32 PM about the 1996 Pontiac Grand Prix 2 Dr SE Coupe

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I first changed the radiator
cap first thing . then I ckd
the thermostat and changed
it. Then I changed the water
pump. now it's still runnin in
the Red. So someone told
me that it's a common thing
for people to put a
thermostat in upside down
by accident.
So I'm thinking that maybe
it's a blown head gasket.
The thing is it's not blowing
white smoke or water. it's
almost like the water isn't
circulating. I so lost on what
to do.

Did you make sure the cooling fans are working? Flushed the radiator and purged air out of the system?

I actually had the radiator flushed and also had a temperature gauge switch put on Just in case it wasn't reading right.

the mechanic did say that the water pump didn't look new. Auto zone told me that the 6 cylinder is misfiring. Would that be the cause of severe overheating?
