May help it by doing a pan drop and change the filter and fluid.

With a hundred and forty thousand miles and never been serviced b4 don't touch it wrong move fix what needs to be fixed . I did a tranny on a Bonniville with high miles that never was serviced with in a month the tranny blew. Any smart honest mechanic will tell you not to touch it or else your hit believe me or not your choice?????

I'm not sure. I had an earlier Taurus that did the same thing. Took it to a trans shop & had the fluid & filter changed. That didn't help at all. Now I have a 2005 that does the same thing. What I've noticed is that it only does it when up to operating temp. Not when cold. My next move is to have a trans cooler installed. I'll let you know if it works.

I added an aftermarket cooler & a qt of Lucas trans fix. Right now the hard shift is gone. We'll have to wait to see what summer brings. BTW: I installed a Hayden #678 trans cooler that fits yrs 2000 to 2007. I actually called Hayden to find out which cooler was for my car. I just purchased a 2nd 2005 Taurus SEL with a worn out trans. I'm having it rebuilt as we speak & I have another 678 Hayden to go on it too. Any other questions, just ask.

mrac5: Did the cooler and Lucas still solve the hard shift when summer came along?
