Starter ?

Asked by Emma Oct 01, 2018 at 09:38 AM about the 2003 Ford Explorer XLT V8 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2003 Ford Explorer has been acting up for two weeks now. Sometimes it
starts fine and other times it just clicks when I turn the key. Put on a new starter
and it started, then half hour later did the same thing again. I'm thinking it may
be in the ignition because when it won't start the seat also does not move into
position when the key is inserted.

Next time it happens, shift into neutral then try if it starts then, suspect the trans range switch if not Ignition switch is likely.

My Explorer does the same exact thing.. mechanic said it was the starter. I did all the tests and it seems like the answer. What was wrong with your truck, if it wasn't the starter?
