Not getting fire

Is the security light flashing?

Where is that

Flashing on the dash, a red light that says security.

No nothing.

Well thats good at least. Sounds like the Ignition Control Module is bad, located in the distributor. It can be taken out and tested at Auto Zone, or other parts stores. There is an ignition relay, but doubt that would be the problem.

I got the ICM test and it's good. So the distributor?

No not really, but you check the rotor to try and spin it. It should not spin, and if it does, then the pin sheared on the distributor shaft gear.

The rotor spins without the motor running or you turning it over? It spins by hand?

I take the cap of and turn it over and it moves

How do I tell if the distributor is bad

The only way the distributor in that one would be bad is if the shaft bushings were worn out. There would be play in the shaft that the rotor attaches too. So, have the cap off, put your hand on the rotor and see if you can move it. It will move a little bit but what you are feeling for is if that shaft is locked in place.

Does it need to be pointing toward #1

No, all your checking is if that distributor gear pin is sheared or not. At this point it does not matter where the rotor is pointing at.

Ok then put it back together, the gear is ok. Check the Ignition Control Module at a parts store, since there a little spendy. Also when re-installing the ICM make sure and put dielectric grease on the matting surface of the ICM (bottom side). This protects the module from heat, and makes it last longer.

I had that checked and it good.

Could it be with the ignition?

So you say "not getting fire to the coil" I took that as you are not getting 12V at the coil. Did you pull the coil wire off and check for spark? There is a fuse for the ECM you may want to check also. When was the ICM checked? You had said nothing about the Ignition Control Module.. I'll be back in a 1/2 hr.

Yes I pulled the coil wire off and no spark. I checked the fuses and they are good.

I ran a scanner and it said catalyst monitor, oxygen sensor, evaportive monitior, mass air sensor.

The only thing holding the spark up is the Ignition Control Module, But now you say you had it tested. Other than that it would be in the security system being activated, but again, you said the security light is not flashing. Or the coil is not getting 12V. Do you have a test light? I guess the only thing to verify would be to see if there is 12V at the coil. You pull the plugin and check the terminals to see if there is 12V on one of them. One other possibility is that if the coil is not grounded good.

What you found with the scanner has nothing to do with spark.

I don't have a volt meter but I used a test light and it lights up when I test it

How do I make sure the coil has a good ground?

Clean up the contact points on the metal that run around the outside of the coil where it mounts to the bracket, and clean the contact point on the bracket to where it bolts to the motor. Is there a green wire bolted to the outer metal casing of the coil? That would need to be cleaned as well.

No there is no green wire on the side of it only the connector and the coil wire.

Just make sure the mounting surfaces are good and clean and tight.

I have a 2003 Silverado and it won't start either, no gas and no spark! Replaced the cam and crank sensors and nothing so I tried a new ignition switch and still nothing;)

I have a 03 Chevrolet 1500 and it don't start when it's cold are sits for 5 or more hours but u can pull start it and after that it cranks and runs great I'm lost here anyone know where I should start
