Any GM 350 engine will work. All are stamped out of the same molds but the rest of the parts are upgraded for the Corvette. The heads also are different. A basic block 350 will bolt right in. I also think the old 60's 327 will fit. A 400 ci truck motor will bolt in without any changes or problems. The only thing you need to be aware of is the transmission may be different, so an adapter may be necessary. Crate motors will fit also, and they are made for all GM cars and trucks. GMC saved a ton of money on a one size fits all. You make 10s of million vehicles and they all take the same motor, you save a ton of money. It's what's inside and bolted on is what matters. In my Corvette, I had to replace my stock 350, ( three major cracks in the block after 300K miles, so I got a 4 bolt main 350 without anything but the block. The entire motor was then transformed with custom parts and stuff. Bolted tight in. Went from 350 hp to 450+ hp. Still looks stock, just does not sound stock though. Runs strong. I don't care about matching numbers.

If you are in California I believe an 84 is exempt from the smog testing / requirements. Check first. Like I said above, any basic GM 350 wi9ll fit. You then are free to add, bolt or attache anything you want onto the engine. Some parts are labeled (50 state legal) meaning it will pass Ca. smog regulations. If you want to go back to stock parts but stroke it with a 400 crank you can do that also but be aware some cutting of the 350 block nay be necessary to allow the block to rotate without striking the block. You can add on the 21st century fuel injection or other newer parts. A very good and knowledgable rebuilder can help you there. GM also sells crate engines that can be bolted into the car that is complete. go on line or to the Chevy parts dealer and ask to look at what is offered. I always found them helpful. If you live in South County the Chevy dealer in Costa Mesa is known for working with after market parts for Corvettes. Look them up and give them a call. Good luck, have fun. It's only money.
