Question type: Maintenance & Repair

What should I be looking for mechanical wise, and are there any major problems with the 1981? I am interested in one that all numbers match and has 93000 miles. It has been painted 2 years ago. His asking price is $8000 He was unable to start it since the battery was dead. Interior is cloth and needs cleaning. What should I offer.

Suggest comparison shopping on Ebay or Hemmings Motor News to see what similar cars are going for. If you can't see it run, that's a problem. He should be able to jump start or replace the battery if he's asking you to shell out $8000. There are no major problems with the '81s versus any other years but I would suggest checking all of the fluids for color, smell, etc. as well as making him start it and let you hear it run.
