1994 Chevy Silverado 1500 manual not getting fuel

Asked by Brandon0503 Jul 30, 2020 at 02:14 PM about the Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My truck isn’t getting fuel and isn’t turning the fuel
pump on. I replaced the fuel relay. I replaced the
fuel pump still nothing. It’s only getting 8 volts to
the pump. But I can’t find any broken wire or
anything.

Make sure the battery has a full charge and battery connections all good. you can use digital multimeter across battery posts, everything off. the generic spec for a full charge is 12.6 volts, if the reading is much lower, you need to charge the battery. Also with meter leads touching battery posts, have helper turn key to crank, take meter reading, generic spec, shouldn't drop below 9.6 volts. If the reading drops way down, that isn't going to work. You could use jumper wire on load side of fuel pump relay, if voltage is correct, the pump should run, you don't need to use the key. At the pump itself, gray wire is voltage and black wire is ground, you need both for the pump to run, proper voltage and good ground.

The battery gets 12-13 volts. I went crazy and cut the grounds in the harness and redid them and cut the grey wire and re did that and now it gets nothing
