My 2000 Trooper will run down the road fine, then suddenly, the power will shut down and the car will not run. What's the problem?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

This car has  170000 miles on it, but seems to run pretty well except for it cutting off going down the road. It will also shut down when sitting at a stop sign/light without warning. It does these things randomly. I'm concerned that repair costs will exceed the price I paid for it. ($2400.00)

That happened to me with my 99 trooper, and it turned out to be the engine harness. I'm not sure how much it was to repair it, because it happened a few days after I bought it and the dealer fixed it, but I've read articles where it could be as much as $700 to fix.
