2004 Chevy Venture stuck in park shifter arm moves freely

Asked by 2004venture Oct 30, 2018 at 12:29 PM about the 2004 Chevrolet Venture

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I lost the key to my 2004 Chevy Venture so
had a locksmith come out to make a new
transponder key. Afterwards, the security
light never went off, I drove it a few times
and my windshield wipers won't go down
when i turn them to off they stay up on my
windshield now! Went to put it in gear to
leave my driveway yesterday and the shifter
arm moves freely up and down. It stays in
park.. it is not catching the gears at all.
Could this be the locksmiths doing?? (My
shifter is up by my steering wheel)

I had a similar problem with my 2005. Car stuck in park and shifter moved freely. It turns out that the cable from the shfiter to the trans came loose.
