A bad hub bearing will also create a loud grinding/growling noise. Is this noise happening while NOT applying the brakes and driving at normal speeds? Also, check the rear brake shoes as they can also wear down enough to cause grinding.

Most likely is the bearing on one of the wheel. The easiest way is to lift ea, of them and turn by hand.
