76 VW motor on dune buggy

Asked by Riverratt28 Sep 24, 2019 at 10:31 PM about the 1976 Volkswagen Beetle

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My vw motor will start run fine till it
warms up then it will backfire sputter
and die when I push the pedal down for
wide open throttle. I've changed the
plugs, wires, carb, ignition coil, it's
timed correctly.  I don't know what to do
with it at this point it'll run great but
then out of no where it'll do this
backfire an die situation.  Please
someone tell me what to look for or
what the fix is

sounds like a points, condenser problem or vacuum advance

Electronic ignition no points no vaccum advance on this one it's a 009 distributor

The 009 distributor is a mechanical advance and the advance occurs much sooner than the stock distributor that occurs at around 2000 RPMS. If that helps. watch this video https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=009+distributor+timing&view=detail&mid=65A580EC3A2A5C41AC8765A580EC3A2A5C41AC87&FORM=VIRE
