value as a fixer-uper?

Asked by Aaron Feb 28, 2012 at 05:30 PM about the 1974 Volkswagen Beetle

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have been offered a 1974 volkswagon bettle for free, as a fixer, project car. The sunroof was stolen a while back, and since then it has been parked outside and not driven for the last 5 years. Water and snow have since entered the car anqd rotted the floor. Is it worth it to invest in this car, and does anyone know how expensive parts are?

Simple amswer is no. the older vw's are worth more, a 74 fully restored would do great to get 10 grand. More likely 4-7 grand if it was restored nicely. Driver cars of this year are around 2 grand.
