where can i find gear shift instructions for my 1974 beetle &what size car battery od i need

i was recently given my 1974 beetle, but it did not come with a car battery and the original gear shift stick has been replaced with a modern customized gear shift stick. I would also like to find a maintence manual and operational instructions

You should get a Chilton manual. Its the best manual you can get for your car. It has diagrams and info on everything you would want to know.
