a stand off deck lid to cool

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I saw this quote on a Facebook VW site today. "Get a stand off deck lid to cool that engine or # 3 will go bye bye."
I am assuming air cooled VWs have been driven zillions of miles WITHOUT a deck lid stand off. How much credibility does this have with you guys that are in the know? Still waiting for our car to be shipped here................

maybe a few suffered number 3 getting hotter than it could stand.only because of hard running on hot days,or a defected cooling vent or fan. normally no problem ,it wasn't a factory flaw like you see so much of today. . aftermarket companies will capitalize on anything that will sell, scare tactics ,your pocket book, looking cool.whatever! this item is some assurance for the extreme cases .the cost with painting and product probably would be more than the car repair if by chance it did happen.

Here's a flow diagram of the air cooling. Cylinder number three shouldn't get any hotter than number four. There's a shroud that forces air through all cylinders. http://www.mikeydesigns.com/bug/v8-beetle-air-flow-to-radiator.jpg
