Got my '70 beetle to idle now, but it stalls when I try to put it into gear

Hi everyone, I am doing my first reno on a 1970 Beetle. After replacing some
key components I have finally achieved idle !!!!   But now when I try to put it
into gear it stalls. Oh BTW it a automatic shift.  It doesnt stall when I depress
the pedal, only when I try to ease her into gear.  Please help !!

fuel pressure.....float adjustment...vacuum leak!!!! tell us more...
