My boyfriend has a 1970 Beetl Autostick that he has finally got runnint after replacing the distributor but now when he puts it in reverse it just dies but the other gears work, we are stumped?

He's got the reverse light wire on the negitive isde of the coil. The wire with the inline fuse should go on the possitive side. Only one wire should be on the negitive side,the condenser.
