why won't it shift out of first gear

If it won't shift past 1st gear I've seen one of the speed sensors on the transmission do this. You can usually have your codes read and one of them will have a fault

I know this is a off the wall question but does your motor look like this layout on ur van Im trying to figure out if this is a Town & County
