We are trying to find out why the truck latch will not secure on the trunk hook when the lid is closed, it does not lock into place.

Thunder this sounds as simple as a failed latch, Thunder. Sit down with your T-Bird's Chilton's (probably available at the local library) and see if you feel up to switching the latch out yourself. If you do then order the latch kit from your local dealer and have some fun. If not, then your mechanic can probably do it in half a day once he has the parts. It's a good place to start and its probably not too expense to see if that's where the problem lies (which it probably does) Good luck!
