Why does my 1971 Thunderbird have no electrical power?

Asked by Thunder71 Jul 25, 2015 at 07:23 PM about the 1971 Ford Thunderbird

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I turn the key and get nothing: no accessories and the starter motor does not turn.  I
cleaned the battery terminals and replaced the ignition switch on the steering column.
The headlight switch had been acting up before the problem, so I replaced it, too.  Still
nothing when I turn the key to start or to accessories.

Also check ground wire coming from negative battery terminal going to the chassis frame making sure it did not come loose from the frame.

Check the negative cable where it bolts to the engine block. I had this same problem on my 70 Thunderbird.
