Believe these were vacuum-actuated like the older Caddies. Kicked off when you put the vehicle into drive. Typically there was a hidden small handle under the driver's side dash in case the vacuum operated function failed.
a vacuum power unit will release the parking brakes automatically when the transmission selector moves into any drive position with the engine running, not neutral or park engine running and no position engine off. the lever mentioned by littlehorn is on the pedal mount in front of and just below the vacuum power unit.

This information from littlehorn and chapito saved us $$$ when we pulled out our 64 Thunderbird from the barn. WoW! The little lever was just where you said it would be and wasn't hard to push away from you to release the brake. You made our day!! Now if we could only find the rat that's hiding somewhere inside!!!!
I can not seem to find out how to relese the e break on my 66 Thunderbird....i thought would b the little button on the bottom of the e break but was the high beam lights witch is kinda odd...but will someone please explain
