88 Ford F-150 custom

My 88 f150 custom doesn’t what to go from park to drive
easily. I have to press the gas for a minute for it to shift.
What could be the problem

You didn't mention engine/tranny type, automatic/manual, or mileage - making a few assumptions, I'd suggest you have a failing front pump in tranny, and only by revving at higher RPMs can you get enough pressure to shift, or possibly failing clutch in tranny. May want to let a shop run tranny on a diagnostic stand and take a look at the fluid/filter condition.
