any idea what this noise could be?

i over heated my 96 LT1 corvette and it is making this really bad chirping
sound when it idles and when i rev it at all it turns into ticking and when the
rpms drop down to idling again it makes the chirp. any idea what it is?

I'd say it's a bad lifter but in newer engines who knows because I never heard of one chirping , It'll probably get worse

Sounds like it got really hot,if so it is possible that you ruined the cam, lifters maybe even the block. Only way to know for sure is to tear it down and see if the inside of the engine block down the cylinders have turned blue. If your lucky it will just need the top end redone, but prepare for the worse.

Change the oil and oil filter. Oil basically gets ruined when the engine is overheated. It becomes very thin when it gets that hot and loses its viscosity once it cools down again. The possibility is there that the engine was damaged but let's hope not! Hope that helps! Jim
