Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Bought a 99 corolla terra. After a week it randonly
died. Wouod start but kept dyibg while driving.
Pulled over mechanic came. Seemed that the
radiator was out of fluid brokeb cap. He added
water and new cap. Solved for a bit. Now when
dies i add abput a cup of water and its alright for a
few hours. Day after he cleaned the throttle body.
Car still wont turn over if its been sitting for a few
hours unless its beiblng revved. If let go of the gas
it dies. After a few minutes i can disengage the
gas pedal. Car is slow to progress through gears.
Takes on avg 5 seconds from flooring the pedal to
move up a gear. Ac off significantly increases
power. Going up (steep) hills feels like it wants to
stall and usually does stall once ive reached the
top. Adding water to radiator seems to help.
Seems to use a lot of gas. Tired of dealing with
this after work. Want to bring it in to a mechanic
but also would like to know what he should look
at.

A cup of water will not affect the starting or lack of power issues. It's the time. Now flooring the throttle will always take more time to shift, it will rev to to near red-line before shifting. My suggestion is get an OBDII scan to point you where the problem is, but don't buy any parts... yet. Get the codes and come back and let us know what they are, and myself or one of the guys will be happy to help with a solution. Electrical parts can not be returned - even if never installed on car. Sometimes the guy that does the scan knows what they are doing.... others not so much. Open a new question so we will se it, I don't go back to every answer I give

I forgot to ask.. did the car overheat at any time? And I am not familiar with the Terra, and when I looked it up every article is in a language I don't understand or even know what language it is. May I ask where you are?

I am in the caribbean. Im adsuming its an import and that its a terra. Thats the obly model that its resembles. The radiator overheated if thats possible. Smoke was coming from the hood and the car died. Mechanic added water and it drove again.
