Won't start

Asked by Muddingal13 Sep 14, 2019 at 07:29 PM about the 1996 Chevrolet C/K 1500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I got a 96 Chevy k1500, wasn't my truck so I'm not sure
what all was done to the truck. Hooked up the battery
and the headlights, windows and wippers all work. It
doesn't crank, doesn't start I can hear some type of
clicking when I try to crank it almost like it's the fuel
pump clicking. I know it's a new to the truck engine and
transmission. I just put a radiator, fan clutch in. I'm new
to mechanics so please be patient with me

clicking noise usually comes from starter motor. check connection to the starter motor itself if there any dirt or rust or wires just loose. if you have helper ask the person hold ignition key on start while you tap a little by hammer on starter motor. If you tap and truck starts , replace starter motor. be very careful during this test. make sure truck is on park , apply parking brake and secure driving wheels to prevent truck to move
