Intermittent problem with '99 S10

Asked by Densie Aug 08, 2018 at 05:06 PM about the 1999 Chevrolet S-10

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi. I've had my '99 S10 for about 18 months. It has 193,000 miles and runs
great. About 6 times since I bought it, it acts like it's out of gas when I'm
driving it, usually after I've been sitting at a stop light for a few minutes. I pull
over and shut the engine off, then restart after about 5 minutes and it's like
nothing happened. Then it won't happen again for a while, like a few months.
I haven't had my repair shop check it out because it's so random and
intermittent. Any thoughts? Thanks.

If you live in a climate that stays hot or in higher temperatures then it could be vapor locking unless this happens almost only when your gas gauge drops below a quarter of tank mark...then it could be trash in the tank that clogs the fuel pump screen

It happened the other day and I was at half a tank. The last time was at least a few months ago and it was at a quarter tank. Still, I've had bad fuel filters before and the symptoms were a lot more frequent.

These newer vehicles last 10 or 15 yrs come with so many relays and electronic sensors it makes it hard to pinpoint the problem...you may want to hook it up to a diagnostic machine to keep from spending unnecessary money on it .
