I have a 83 Z28 with a 305 and Holley 4 barrel carb and every so often on start up it just blows the starter up and i cant figure it out if anyone knows let me know please so i an stop wasting money on starters

i'm wondering what kind of battery u are using... the cc amps might be frying it??

I think bad flex plate...If you didnt match the correct teeth to go with the starter and flex plate it's warped now if it wasn't already. A missing tooth can do that too. I had a 95 z28 that made a high pitch scretch when it warped. I later installed a high torque mini starter that wouldn't break but the noise was still there. New Flex plate...and count the teeth dont go by the year, could've been swapped at one piont.

...@sergio that's right! i forgot to inclue the flex plate. its been awhile since i had that type problem.
