do all original 71 ss standard cars have a console?

i recently purchase a 1971 camaro ss 396 4speed car and just checking on things , the
car has a floor mounted shifter with no console but has buckets .

I don't know if it was part of the trim package. I pulled up a bunch of interior images and it looks many of them have consoles. --- http://images.info.com/searchw?page=1&qkw=1971+camaro+ss+interior

all manuals had a console unless it had a column automatic shifter I believe

Incorrect. Consoles were an option. The console was the same for automatic of 4sp cars, just the top bezel changed.
