A SUV for sale $500 as is has transmission leak.
How much will it cost to replace or repair?

Depends on what you want to do. A junkyard transmission is $400 plus install, and no warranty. A rebuild would be around $1500-2000, and a new trans would be around $3K. Plus your probably looking at tires or brakes and other parts. Sounds like it is in fair shape, so once you get it all fixed up it will only be worth $1500. Unless you really like this vehicle and want to keep it long term, find something around for at least $3-5K at a minimum if you want a decent vehicle.


Agreed. You can easily put more into this car than it is worth.


All you know is the transmission has a problem. It is likely that there are lots of other things to fix.
