Beam relay Durango -99

Asked by Rolf_1st Nov 17, 2007 at 08:07 AM about the 1999 Dodge Durango

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My beamlights are constantly on whether I turn of the switch or the ignition. Obviously the relay has "welded" it's connectors. Problem is I can't locate the relay. Could someone please help me or come up with another sugestion?

You could tap into the wiring to the lights and install a dashboard on/off toggle switch, but the best solution would be to look for shorts to ground which would cause the lights to stay on all of the time. A Haynes manual will show you where the relay is, but you may have a worn or shorted wire in the system which is allowing them to have constant power.

The Haynes manual shows headlamp relay located under the lid at the driver side of the dashboard where it's not in my car. Picture probably shows a Dakota. Anyway, thank's for your advise regarding shorts-to-ground. As I understand you activate the lights by connecting to ground, right? Still it would be good to find the relay just to be able to check the status.

Since I live in Sweden and my Durango has taken strange ways to find me, I realised that it's built for the Canadian market which then includes a Daytime Running Lamp Module, DRLM. This module can obviously create spooks in the lights system. Anyone experiensed that?
