Some things, check the carburetor gasket, they deteriorate with time, check for vacuum leaks alone the intake manifold & heads with carburetor cleaner, actually all vacuum areas, rpm would pick up if you find a leak, make sure the carburetor is clean, and check for fuel pressure, it should be like 4 to 6.5 lbs. and check the EGR valve to make sure it is closing all the way.

so I have a 76 Chevy I found that the first thing I did was replace the fuel tanks because they were endlessly resting it was stored for a long time with low fuel levels also my ignition switch is not the best so I imagine at this age of vehicle I would check your ignition switch I would check your fuel tanks and good luck
