89 chevy c1500
On my 89 chevy c1500, i checked my oil on the
dipstick and showed NOTHING. Only when its on it
shows that i have oil on the dipstick.
What does this mean?
That means you are low on oil you have oil on dip stick when it's running because the little bit of oil that is in it is moving around because the engine is running. To check oil level park on level ground then check dip stick if no oil on stick add a quart of oil and recheck oil level if it needs another quart add it try not to go past the full mark on the dip stick adding to much oil is as bad as not enough.
It means that you on the verge of ruining the engine, shut it off and top off the engine oil with the specified weight, and recheck the color of the oil, if it is black get it serviced. Then keep tabs on the oil level make sure your not leaking any or even burning it excessively.
How could i tell if im burning oil? And where could the possibilities be if i am? All i can say is that when shifting to a higher gear, im blowing alot of smoke out of my exhaust. But when firstly taking off from gears 1,2 nothing. Anything above that Smoke,Smoke,Smoke..
That sounds like a tired engine, rings, valve guides and seals, etc.
