89 chevy c1500

I have a 89 chevy c1500.
And i just wanted to know that when i check my oil
on the dipstick with the truck off, it shows no oil on
the dipstick. Only when its on it shows on the
dipstick. Is this normal for older models?
Because when i do my wifes 2012 jetta it shows oil
on the dipstick wether its on or off.

Ok, i did what you said to check it with the engine off. But showed no oil on the dipstick. Only when its on it would show oil on the dipstick. Is this bad?

I think that year there was a dipstick recall ?? No shit , fuckin unbelievable 90 for sure it's in my garage and I'm baffled more everyday how anyone ever fucked up a good Chevy truck that was perfect for a decade
