When charging a battery I always remove the battery from the vehicle first. Remove the negative (-) battery cable first, then the positive (+) battery cable. Place the battery on a sturdy table, shelf, floor, etc. in a well ventilated area. Charging a battery can produce flammable hydrogen gas! Put the charger leads on the battery before plugging in the charger so there's no sparks when you hook up the charger leads. Follow the instructions for your charger as far as using it goes. Charging times, amps, etc. HTH. -Jim
