Is my motor shot

Ok maybe someone can give me a idea of what's going on. As I was driving down the road all of a sudden the
check engine light started to blink then I started to feel the truck shaking really bad as I started to pull over it's like
the truck wanted to kill it wasn't idling right at all so when I got it stopped I killed the truck  it was low on water so I
put water In it even thou it wasn't running hot all the gauges were fine anyway when I tried to start the truck up
again it cranked but it was knocking and the idle was going up and then down then up then it went down so low it
killed and I haven't been able to start it since. We checked the started and it is turning. It doesn't do anything when I
turn the key it just makes one tick sound and that's it

How much water did you have to add? If the coolant was low enough you could have been running hotter than what was showing on the temp gauge. This happens because the sensor is an immersion type, If its not in liquid it cant read the coolant temp. If you just get a click when you attempt to start could be several things. Starter, battery, solenoid or engine locked up. You should be able to turn engine over by hand using the pulleys.
